Lupton Fawcett is a well-established integrated corporate and commercial law firm with offices in Leeds, Sheffield and York. The Ecclesiastical and Charities department in York now seeks a Legal Assistant to join their team. We are looking for an individual who is ambitious, enthusiastic and innovative. The Ecclesiastical and Charities department has been recognised over several years by the independent legal directories Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners.
This varied role involves supporting the staff in department by dealing with enquiries, making appointments, liaising with clients, drafting documents, dealing with fees, research, maintenance of registers and records and providing administrative support to members of the team.
The main work of the department includes:
- Providing legal support for the Province of York and the Dioceses of York, Leeds and Sodor and Man in the Church of England. This involves giving legal advice to the Archbishop of York, bishops, archdeacons, clergy and churchwardens concerning Church legal business such as clergy appointments, alterations and reordering of church buildings, churchyards, consecration and marriage.
- Advice to charities, including advice to those wishing to establish a new charity, charity structures, merger of charities, charity governance and management and a wide range of legal issues affecting charities.
- Assisting with work in relation to schools, including the conversion of schools to academies, multi-academy trusts and advice in relation to education matters.
- Assisting with the work of a notary public.
We are looking for a candidate with excellent organisational and communication skills and the confidence and ability to communicate clearly and concisely at all levels, both in writing and verbally. You will need good IT skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload and to work to and meet deadlines, whilst having a good eye for detail and a concern for quality and accuracy. You should be flexible with a positive outlook and a team player with the ability to use your initiative.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
