Caroline Mockford appointed Registrar of the Province of York
Archbishop Sentamu has appointed Caroline Mockford as Registrar of the Province of York with effect from 1 October 2015. Caroline has been Registrar of the Diocese of York since September 2014 and will take over office of Registrar of the Province of York from Lionel Lennox, who has held that office since 1987.
Caroline said: “It is both a pleasure and a privilege to be appointed Registrar of the Province of York. I have received a very warm welcome from the Diocese of York and I look forward to supporting Archbishop Sentamu in his work across the wider Province”.
As part of the transition, Lionel will support Caroline as Deputy Provincial and Deputy Diocesan Registrar. He will also continue as Registrar of the Convocation of York until December 2015, as well as other ecclesiastical roles for the time being. These include Registrar of Tribunals for the Province of York and Registrar of the Diocese of Sodor and Man. Lionel is also currently Chair of the Ecclesiastical Law Association which represents diocesan registrars, and also has a busy notary public practice.
Lionel said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed my work as a senior ecclesiastical lawyer for the Church of England, and I have been so privileged and proud to have spent most of my professional career in my home county of Yorkshire. I am delighted that Caroline came to join me in York and at Lupton Fawcett in 2014 and I am pleased to be able to support her as she takes over my major responsibilities.”
Both Lionel and Caroline will continue to have their offices at the Provincial and Diocesan Registry in York and as Directors of Lupton Fawcett, Solicitors of York, Leeds and Sheffield.
