John Sykes, a Director at Lupton Fawcett, has been awarded a Masters degree (with Merit) in EU Competition Law from Kings College, London.

EU and UK competition law is used by the powerful competition authorities to maintain competition in markets by controlling mergers and acquisitions and by banning certain restrictions in business agreements with serious consequences for breaching these laws. In the bid rigging case in the construction industry 103 businesses were fined a total of £129 million whilst several business in the double glazing sector were fined a total of £1.38 million for collusion following a discussion on prices at a meeting.

Commenting on his achievement: "My two years researching for a Master in competition law enabled me to study the law and its application in detail, combined with my experience of over 30 years advising on competition law, enables me to give clients cutting edge advice to achieve commercial objects but avoid or minimize the risk of a competition breach"

John regularly advises clients on the application of EC and UK competition law in relation to deals they are doing or proposed new ventures or market initiatives.
