SMART HANDOVER TO A NEW MARSHALL - Change at the helm for Managing Partners’ Forum Yorkshire
Richard Marshall, Managing Director at Lupton Fawcett, has taken over as Chair of the regional group. Richard replaces Peter Smart, former Managing Partner and Executive Chairman at Walker Morris, who was MPF Yorkshire Chair from 2009.
The announcement was made at a regional event held in Leeds this month. Outgoing Chair Peter commented “I was absolutely delighted to learn that Richard was keen to take the MPF baton. The MPF is a national movement enhancing leadership practices in the professions but requires strong local leadership to engage Yorkshire based firms and tailor delivery of services to their needs. I genuinely mean it when I say that Richard is the perfect choice and I cannot think of a better successor!”
Richard Marshall commented: “MPF plays a crucial role in supporting and representing those entrusted with leadership roles across the entire professional services sector. I hope to continue to build the MPF brand locally with the support of dynamic CEO Paul Lemon and my Yorkshire committee. Our aim is to help local firms grow by providing insight to leadership teams to improve performance, increase profitability and prepare for an uncertain future. ”
The future looks bright in Yorkshire. All the major political parties are committed to creating a ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and investing in Yorkshire and the surrounding area. The Treasury has set a target to raise the long term growth rate of the north (currently around 3.7%) to equal that of the UK (4.2%) and professional services firms remain a jewel in the crown of the UK economy and are critical to growth in every other sector. According to the recent BDO Yorkshire report turnover and headcount grew by 11.3% and 6.1% for Financial and Professional services firms within the region’s Top 250 organisations.
MPF research shows that managing growth is both an opportunity and a challenge for leaders and the management team at professional firms. Emerging into a post-recessionary world many firms are looking to diversify their service offerings, find innovative ways to go-to-market, explore new market segments and respond to modified client buying behaviour. Exploiting these opportunities for profitable growth all require leadership and innovation from the management team. With a the sense of a ‘rising tide’ in the market there is further cause for optimism in the sector, however the challenges that lie ahead should not be underestimated. Markets face constant disruption, new entrants and competitors, technology develops apace, man and machine must find sustainable ways to work together and client demands and purchasing are ever more sophisticated.
MPF aims to help firms grow by providing insight to professional firm leadership teams to improve performance and increase profitability.
Michelle Render, MPF Yorkshire’s Regional Director added “I would like to thank Peter for his years as chair of MPF Yorkshire. Everyone agrees that Peter’s insights from the vast experience he has from his time at Walker Morris has been invaluable to all professional services firms, from small to large.”
