In broad terms, a trust is simply a way of giving property away whilst retaining some control.
The person who makes the gift into the trust (“the settlor”) chooses the people who can benefit (“the beneficiaries”) and decides how and when they can enjoy the assets gifted into the trust.
If you set up a trust you need to be satisfied that it is capable of meeting your and the beneficiaries’ long-term requirements whilst conforming with the current legal and tax regulations.
You will have to make sure the right people are appointed to act as trustees who can be trusted to carry out your wishes and look after the assets in the best interests of all the beneficiaries.
Once we have discussed your requirements with you, we will be able to create a solution to fit your specific wishes. We will advise on the suitability of different types of trusts and the tax implications, so you can be confident you’re fully informed.
We are also happy to provide a service to trustees on how to administer an existing trust and can help with trust tax returns or trustee minutes.
