A franchise opportunity will often involve a lower commitment of capital funds than a new business starting from scratch would, but it will nevertheless require all of a franchisee's effort, skill and dedication to make it a success; and usually there will be a requirement to pay licence fees, both at the outset and on an ongoing (usually monthly) basis.
There may be other obligations in the franchise agreement which are not readily apparent to the non-lawyer.
There may be powers in the franchise agreement for the franchisor to terminate the agreement without your consent, or to increase the charges, or to dilute the business by setting up other franchisees in close proximity to yours.
