What was your first job?

I was a paperboy delivering the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph on my bike for about 4 years. When I was at college, I stacked shelves and worked on the tills at Iceland (the supermarket, not the country, that would have been too much of a commute).

If you weren’t in your present position, what would you be doing?

I enjoy reading good quality sports journalism and eating pizza, so either a sports journalist or a pizza chef.

What is the worst mistake you’ve ever made?

Going to watch the Happy Mondays at the Baths Hall in 2017 and thinking they would be good and would make me feel young again. They weren’t and I didn’t. Quite the opposite in fact.

What’s your ideal day away from the office?

A sunny day in the Yorkshire dales followed by craft ale in a country pub.

Name one person you would like to have dinner with?

Arsene Wenger. His Arsenal teams defined my late teens and early twenties, and he has so many interesting things to say about all walks of life, not just football.

What was your best subject at school?

Maths. I just seemed to get it.

What are your hobbies?

Running. I get really grumpy when I can’t/don’t exercise and so I try to get out at least 4 or 5 times a week.

What would you do if you won the lottery?

I have so many grand plans. A pizza van; my own bottle shop; a fizzy/cold water adaptor for our tap. I could go on!

What is your favourite time of the day?

Any time when I can go out running and be completely on my own with some music or a podcast.

What would you like your epitaph to be?

“It could be worse”.
