About Kevin

Kevin joined Lupton Fawcett in 1977 as an Articled Clerk. He trained as a non-contentious lawyer, qualifying in 1979, eventually specialising in corporate finance and is now a Consultant Member in the Corporate Finance Department as well as Finance Director.

Kevin has experience of all types of commercial law but has principally dealt with sales and purchases of the whole (or parts) of businesses, restructuring, and fundraising (largely for owner managed businesses in Yorkshire). Recent activities have included some public company and M&A work for Renew Holdings plc (a Leeds based AIM-listed company), corporate advice for Seabrook Crisps (a local privately owned business), and corporate and commercial advice for Hubwise Holdings (a recent start-up financial services support business).

In addition, over the years, Kevin has developed a speciality for advising charitable entities on their corporate and governance structures, including Hollybank Trust, the National Day Nurseries Association, Scarborough College and, recently, PSL which is responsible for the new Tetleys building in Leeds.

When not at work

Kevin and his wife, Anne, have five adult children, so having been relieved of the burden of their upbringing and education they spend their time playing a little golf, going to the theatre, gardening, travelling, and the gym. Kevin also paints and plays the guitar (a little) and his ambition is to speak Portuguese fluently.

Kevin has also sat on the boards of several charities:

  • Hollybank Trust (1993-2013)
  • igen Trust (1996-2013)
  • National Day Nurseries (2002-2013)
  • Pavilion (2002-2013)
  • Lighthouse School (2011-2013)
  • PSL (2012-2013)

There's a saying that a company is only as good as the last piece of advice they've given you. I have to say, all the advice that we've received from LF has consistently been spot on. The main thing that differentiates the firm is their professional yet personal approach; you have people to talk to and rely on for the best possible legal guidance. Kevin in particular is a great mentor, and in fact everyone we've dealt with at LF has proved to be worth his or her weight in gold. If this is the standard of practice across the whole firm then it certainly gives them the competitive advantage.

Seabrook Crisps

Kevin Emsley is a pleasure to deal with and we inevitably find his advice very astute. On a recent project, he went above and beyond to understand the issues we had which has always made us feel like we were in good hands.

In contrast to some of the "bigger" law firms, we found that his personal approach very reassuring, and it made for a constructive rapport throughout.

John Samuel, Group Finance Director

Renew Plc

I first came across Kevin Emsley in 1988, but it was only when I was appointed to the board of Renew Plc - in 2006 that we began working together. We have worked together on several projects both large and small. - [Kevin recently advised Renew Plc on the acquisition of Lewis Civil Engineering, an £8m transaction to buy a Welsh family based business.]"It was important to Renew Plc that the deal was carried out efficiently, but also that the lawyers were able to empathise with a family run business. Kevin Emsley was a natural choice as he has a lot of experience with companies like ours.
