Lupton Fawcett’s expertise recognised once again by the Legal 500


Lupton Fawcett has once again been recognised for its expertise across a wide range of disciplines by the Legal 500, the leading guide to law firms in the UK, with over four million visitors to its website each year.

Our Leeds, York and Sheffield offices are listed in 21 different categories of legal expertise across the region, with the Sheffield office’s Dispute Resolution being included in the guide for the first time, with a special mention for Rob Cooke and Simon Lockley.

Head of the Sheffield office, Michele Phillips, has been singled out as a ‘leading individual’. According to the guide, she ‘stands out for finance work and always looks for the unexpected and manages these issues easily’.

Although excellent comments are made about each department, those given significant praise by the guide include the Insolvency and Corporate Recovery team which is described as being ‘fast, responsive and knowledgeable’ and ‘goes the extra mile to achieve the client’s goals’.

The Corporate and Commercial department in Leeds is described as ‘a highly experienced group’ led by practice head Giles Clegg and includes ‘effective communicator’ Daniel McCormack, and Martin Frost who is noted for his cross-border and M&A work.

Once again the Agriculture and Estates team in the York office is highlighted and praised for its ‘good advice and quick response times’, with Johanne Spittle, who heads the department, being mentioned for her expertise within the sector.

The Property Litigation team is recognised as having ‘ an excellent reputation derived from the quality and experience of its lawyers, including practice head and grandmaster of property litigation, Jonathan Warner-Reed, who confidently outmanoeuvres his opponents, staying several moves ahead of the game’. Jonathan is also noted as a leading individual.

The Guide reports that the Intellectual Property department provides a ‘fantastic personal service and includes individuals who are always available and provide clear and pragmatic solutions’. Clive Lawrence, who heads the department, is ‘diligent, handles the details well and easily gets to the route of the problem and finds the most desired solution.’

The Private Client team is highlighted for the way ‘complex technical aspects are brilliantly mastered’ with the team attracting praise for their ‘common sense and commercial reality’.

The Family team is recognised as a ‘solid family practice’ headed by  Chris Burns who is described as a ‘top-class advocate’.

Mention is also made about the Claimant Professional Negligence department, which has ‘a deserved reputation for excellence’; the Charities and Social Enterprise Group, which attracts praise for ‘its fast response times and excellent value for money,’; and the multi-award -winning Employment team led by Andrew Gilchrist which offers ‘timely pragmatic support and excellent value for money’.

The Charities and Social Enterprise group, led by Mark Honeywell and the Ecclesiastical Law department, headed by Caroline Mockford are highlighted for their expertise, as is Jonathan Cripwell’s strength in handling fraud cases, Proceeds of Crime Act matters and those concerning cash forfeiture.
