New Director for Lupton Fawcett's private client team
Lupton Fawcett, the Leeds, Sheffield and York-based commercial law firm, is delighted to announce the appointment of Hugh Thompson as a Director into its first-class Private Client department.
Hugh, who is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, advises clients on all aspects of private client work including inheritance tax planning, lasting powers of attorney, Wills and succession planning and administration of estates.
Hugh has particular expertise in advising overseas (particularly those from New Zealand and Australia) based executors, beneficiaries, lawyers and trust companies on all aspects of probate, re-seal of overseas probate, wills and estate administration involving cross-border issues between the UK and overseas jurisdictions. In addition, Hugh advises new migrants moving abroad from the UK (particularly to New Zealand) on the possible UK taxation consequences that can arise.
Richard Marshall, Managing Director, comments: “Hugh has wide-ranging private client experience spanning almost 20 years. Having spent the last 13 years in New Zealand, acting for some of the wealthiest families in that jurisdiction, and being dual-qualified, means that he has greater legal knowledge, unique practising skills and outstanding interpersonal skills – competencies which can only benefit our private and commercial clients”.
Hugh Thompson comments: “I am absolutely delighted to have moved to Lupton Fawcett, one of the strongest law firms in Yorkshire with a real commitment to meet the combined needs of clients for wealth preservation and wealth creation services.
The experience gained in New Zealand is immediately transferable and relevant to all commercial and private clients alike and I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues and clients to help them achieve their aims.”
