About Hugh

Hugh is Partner and Head of the Private Client department, based in Leeds. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners and advises on all aspects of private client work including, inheritance tax planning, wills and succession planning, administration of estates and Lasting Powers of Attorney.

In addition, Hugh advises overseas based executors, beneficiaries, lawyers and trustee companies on all aspects of probate, re-seal of overseas probate, wills and estate administration involving cross-border issues between the UK and overseas jurisdictions (particularly New Zealand and Australia).

Hugh also provides advice to overseas advisors to new migrants moving abroad from the UK (particularly to New Zealand) on the possible UK taxation consequences that can arise from the use of a New Zealand qualifying discretionary family trust as part of their asset protection and succession planning structure.

When not at work

Hugh is a keen musician, a drummer of 25 years in fact. He is interested in motorcycles and is currently restoring a 1972 Honda CB750. He describes himself as a keen country sportsman and enjoys sports such as shooting, fishing and golf. Hugh is also a big follower of Polo both in the UK and New Zealand however he is now rediscovering the English pub after 15 years living in NZ.
